With the holidays just around the corner and longer, lighter evenings on the horizon; it’s time to spring into action and enjoy one or two of these top Toon events…

1. Creative Careers - 4th March

Creative Careers

Fancy yourself a career in the creative industry? Newcastle University Careers Service are back to get your creative juices flowing in their one day event. With speakers from across the country, attend Q&A sessions, throw yourself into workshops and meet employers from industries including PR, film, music, marketing and the arts.

If you’re not already in a creative discipline, don’t worry! This event is open to all students, from any stage of study, so come along to Venue in the Students' Union and get inspired. Just don’t forget to sign up!

2. #ThisGirlCan UV Run - 5th March

For International Women's Day 2020, join forces in Exhibition Park for the annual fun-filled, UV run. Whether you boss that 5k or opt for a mile walk, you can “do it your way” in this celebration of inclusivity because every mile counts!

Grab your glow sticks & neon leg warmers, recruit your allies and feel completely unstoppable!

3. Treble on the Tyne - 13th/14th March


What better way to kick-start the St Patrick’s Day Celebrations than with a traditional Irish performance from Newcastle University Irish Dance Society. Showcasing their talent in two unmissable shows, come along to Venue in NUSU to indulge in snacks, drinks and have a good ol’ jig in true Irish spirit.

All ticket, raffle and donations are also kindly donated to their chosen charities, Streetwise and Crisis.

4. Spring Recruitment Fair - 16th March

Want to bag yourself that impressive internship or incredibly rewarding voluntary position? Then join us for the Spring Recruitment Fair to see what amazing opportunities you can add to your CV. From 11:30-3pm in our Students' Union, chat to recruiters from far and wide from a range of sectors including finance, engineering, retail, IT and more.

This event is not exclusive to Newcastle University students so if you’re from another university, welcome! Just remember to sign in at the entrance.

5. Tree Planting - 16th March


Give something back to nature this March with Go Volunteer’s tree planting event in Kielderhead. For this whole day event, soak up the glorious Northumberland scenery and get your hands dirty to help recreate a real woodland ecosystem here in our region.

With full transport provided, add to your CV and help tackle the climate emergency at the same time.

6. Launch of Fault Lines - 17th March


During this year's Climate Action Week, Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts (NCLA) are at Newcastle Helix with a stunning poetry festival featuring Irish poet, John McAuliffe and Canadian poet, Karen Solie.

With four full days of workshops, discussions, podcasts and more, be intrigued by the role of poets in the present Climate Emergency and learn how environmental poetry can truly engage - and change - an audience. It's an event not to be missed! 

7. Combined Honours Conference - 19th March

Ever wondered what a Combined Honours student gets up to? Find out at the 7th annual Combined Honours Conference from students past and present. Through intriguing presentations, eye-opening workshops and posters, feast your eyes on the excellent work from our Combined Honours department whilst meeting inspirational alumni.

With a wide variety of topics, from going green on campus to the idolisation of the K-pop industry, there truly is something for everyone. Come along and be inspired!

8. Climate Action Fair - 20th March

If you treasure sustainable produce, look no further than this year's Climate Action Fair right here on campus in King's Gate. With appearances from Newcastle's own local zero-waste store, Nil Living, water-friendly Mapped Water Points & our incredible Sustainability Team, put your hard-earned cash into something responsible!

9. Science Careers - 24th March

This month, discover the true variety of careers in Science with Newcastle University’s Careers Service's, Science Careers Outside the Lab event. For one day only in the Hadrian Building, drop in to discover valuable career opportunities, chat with inspirational alumni and employers and build crucial contacts with key organisations the NHS and Enviresearch.

From science education and outreach representatives to scientific sales and marketing, escape the belief that all scientists wear white coats and get involved! Open to all students and graduates, no matter your discipline.

10. Re-opening of Hogwarts Tour - 28th March


Find the golden snitch, ride a Nimbus 3000 and defeat the malevolent Dark Lord in Northumberland this March with a special visit to Harry Potter filming site, Alnwick Castle. Hosted by the fantastic Lundgren Tours, visit Hogwarts, stand in the very spot Harry, Ron and Hermione stood, and take in the breath-taking Northumberland heritage at the same time!

Whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or not, this day out has plenty of activities for both wizards and muggles alike.
