Curious to find out what a typical day is like for a Law student? Find out why Josh chose to study his course, and what he thinks of the reality of student life...

Hi, my name is Josh and I’m a current 3rd year Law with European Studies student at Newcastle University. I thought you might like to know what a typical day at Newcastle University looks like for me.

9:00

An early start this morning. These are few and far between but I guess they must be done! Today we are having a class on European Union Law, looking into the European Institutions and whether they are democratic. I find this very fascinating, especially in light of Brexit, discussing whether the EU is a 'monster' or just perceived to be one.

11:00

Break time! The usual hang-out spot is in a cafe around the corner from University or in one of the many hangout spaces in Uni. However, today we are going to Dog and Scone, a dog cafe in the centre of town. It's a nice chill out space after passionately defending the EU in class!

13:30

Back to class for a 2-hour lecture on criminal law. Today we are looking at homicides. It is especially interesting to learn about defences available for the most vulnerable members of society.

15:30

Class is finished for the day, but the work is not done! I head home to prepare for a seminar, spending an hour or two doing that. After that, I chill in the sitting room with my flatmates, playing some music and discussing how the week has been, before making food and getting ready for the night ahead.

20:00

After a hard day's work, discussing political institutions and the specifics of the loss of control defence, every good law student needs to let down their hair. In Newcastle University this is SO easy with its vast array of societies. Tonight, I am going to the RAG (Raising and Giving) 'Where's Wally' event, hoping to relax with some old friends and maybe make some new ones! This is just an example of one day and not a reflection of the week! Some days have more hours in university and some have none! It is such a mixed bag. If you have any questions regarding timetabling or what it's like to be a law student, please do contact me through Unibuddy!
