Why Choose Newcastle University 2023

by Newcastle University

There's a lot to navigate when it comes to Results Day, especially if you're confronted with a sudden change of plans and find yourself in Clearing.

Between finding the right course for you, to choosing a city where you will feel at home, there's a lot to consider in a short period during the Clearing process. So, we've listed just five of the many reasons you might want to choose Newcastle University this Results Day....

Newcastle University is among the highest ranking universities in the world

Newcastle University ranks in the top 150 universities in the world, not to mention we’re a founding member of the Russell Group! We also rank in the top 20 universities in the UK in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022.

What's more, with one of the largest European Union research portfolios in the UK, you can rest assured you're learning from academics who are trailblazers in their respective fields. Whatever your passion, you will be paired with like-minded students and academics who share your interests and will challenge you to delve deeper.

Newcastle is among the most affordable, student-friendly cities in the UK

Newcastle ranks in the top 10 most affordable cities in the UK in the QS Best Student Cities 2022. It's also 4th in the UK for local life (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2020).

Our city has a rich tapestry of sports, local music, history and an enchanting theatrical arts and literature scene. If none of that takes your fancy, few can resist the allure of Newcastle's nightlife.

Historic buildings house an irresistible mix of trendy cocktail bars, budget-friendly pubs, laid-back tearooms, independent theatres, galleries showcasing the finest local art, gyms, and so much more - all within walking distance of our city-centre campus.

We're five star

Our teaching is ranked five star (QS Stars 2022) and you’ll be guided by gifted educators to become an independent critical thinker.
You’ll learn through:

  • lectures and seminars
  • practical sessions
  • group learning
  • self-study
  • research
  • fieldwork and study visits

You’ll also get plenty of opportunity to put your learning into practice – through presentations and exhibitions, performance opportunities, projects, placements and more.

During your first year, a peer mentor will help you settle into life as a university student and you'll be supported in your studies by a personal tutor. Your tutor is usually a member of academic staff from your degree programme who can advise on academic matters, as well as direct you to any wellbeing support you may need.

Our facilities are five star, too (QS Stars 2022). You'll have access to specialist subject facilities ranging from a sea-going research vessel and marine lab, to high-specification labs and clinical skills suites, two commerical farms, music and media studios, plus much, much more as we continue to invest millions in an outstanding campus environment.

An on-campus museum, theatre and gallery bring history and art to life; our library service is multi-award-winning; and our partnership with the £350 million innovation hub, Newcastle Helix - a living laboratory and global centre for science, technology, research and education in the heart of our city - will enhance your learning experience.
