📚 How to stay organised during exam season

As a final year student, Gurleen has experienced this cycle multiple times.

One thing she has learned is that staying organised does not just help you study more. It helps you feel more in control during a stressful period.

💡 Study Well this assessment period

The Library will be operating the Study Well campaign throughout the assessment period.

Here are some key things we will be doing to help you – and what you can do to help yourself and others:

  • Staff will be monitoring spaces regularly to ensure they are kept clean and quiet and will be happy to try and help you find a space to suit your study needs.
  • Text our Noise Alert Service on 07891 484764 if you’re being disturbed by noise in a silent area and we’ll come and investigate.
  • Take regular breaks, but if you’re leaving your desk for longer than 30 minutes, take your belongings with you or use one of our lockers to help free up space for others to use.
  • For those moments when you need some time out, explore our Leisure Reading collections, stream some music from our Spotify playlists, or download our Study/wellbeing pack.
  • Use your library spaces responsibly.

During the assessment period, free packets of pasta, noodles or soup are available to help keep you fuelled while you study.

Please take only what you need and bring your own mug and cutlery!

This scheme, in partnership with the Students' Union, is kindly funded by alumni and supporter donations.

UK Terrorism Threat Level – Information for Students

On Thursday 30 April, the UK government raised the national terrorism threat level from “substantial” to “severe”.

This means that an attack on UK soil is considered “highly likely” in the next six months.

While this is not in response to any particular or specific threat to the University, Newcastle, or the wider North East, keeping our community safe is a shared responsibility.

We’re sharing this information on the Student Noticeboard so that all students feel informed, reassured and confident about what to do if they ever feel uncertain or unsafe.

See how your feedback shapes improvements across the University.

This edition spotlights our IT Service (NUIT):

💬 You said: "The Wi-Fi Coverage is poor in some campus locations"

👂 We listened: Improved Wi-Fi is one of the key deliverables of the University’s Network Transformation Programme - the largest investment in IT infrastructure the University has ever made.

The existing network is reaching the end of its supportable life and will be replaced by a modern network across central campus, satellite sites, NUMed and NewRIIS. This will improve Wi‑Fi coverage, enhance security for research activity and allow faster responses to cyber‑security threats.

Students are encouraged to continue reporting WiFi issues via NU Service. Support is available at the IT Service Support Hubs and guidance can be found at our Campus Wi-Fi page.
