Last week, we welcomed over 2000 of you to our Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair to meet over 140 employers and explore the opportunities available.

Getting enough rest is vital to academic achievement. The recent Nurture-U study revealed that many students experience poor sleep. Luckily our Student Content Creator, Angelina, has shared some useful tips for a good night's sleep! 

  

With Halloween soon, we share important information about staying safe and being considerate of your neighbours and each other. You may also wish to check our recommendations for sober fun from our Student Content Creator, Rachel.

Whilst King’s Gate Levels 1 and 2 are closed for redevelopment, you can still access Student Services: 

  • Book appointments online. 
  • Call our usual phone line: +44 (0) 191 208 3333 
  • Visit our helpdesk for face-to-face assistance from our friendly Student Engagement Team, temporarily located at Level 1, Great North House on Hancock Street.

    We’re thrilled to announce the return of the Brighter Futures Grants programme in collaboration with Santander. You have the chance to win one of 10 grants, each worth £1000, to support your academic journey.

     

    To enter: 

    1. Register for Santander Open Academy, a free online learning platform.  

    2. Follow the verification link in your confirmation email. 

    3. Log in and choose ‘Get Started’ to complete your entry into the Brighter Futures Grants programme. From the menu, select Newcastle University. 

    4. Submit your entry by 5 December 2024 for your chance to win!

    🎃 Staying safe this Halloween

    With spooky season right around the corner, please be considerate of your neighbours when celebrating: 

    • Be mindful of noise – especially if there are young children or pets nearby.
    • Join in community events like NUSU’s ghost walk or bonfire night at Blue Flames.
    • Stay safe by drinking responsibly, staying hydrated, and eating well. 
    • Clean up after any gatherings to keep your neighbourhood tidy and safe!

    ⛰️ Recommendations for sober fun in Newcastle

    Sober curious this October? Or just looking for some new things to do – that don’t involve drinking? Well fear not, our Student Content Creator, Rachel, has come up with an exhaustive list of wholesome activities to keep you busy for the rest of the year! From pottery painting to vintage shopping, there’s recommendations for everyone!

    💤 Struggling to sleep?

    Recent findings from the Nurture-U study revealed that many students experience poor sleep quality over the academic year! More than 1,000 students completed the surveys and over 40% reported good or very good sleep at the start of term compared to only 28% by March (source: Nurture-U study report, Newcastle University).

     

    Check out useful tips from Angelina, our Student Content Creator, to help you get a good night’s sleep, so you can wake up feeling fresh and ready for your classes.

    📚 Library Search, reserving and recommending books

    Library Search is the way to discover library resources such as books, e-books and journal articles for your assessments. If a book is out on loan, you can make a reservation and you will be notified when it’s available. If we don’t have a book that you need, then use our recommend a book service.
