As the nights get darker and the festive season approaches, we want to remind you of the support available to help you stay safe.
24/7 Security: If you have a problem on campus, call our friendly team on 0191 208 6817. Additionally, download the free SafeZone app to alert the team to your situation and location.
Campus police officer: Contact PC 2458 Gary White or attend our drop-in session in Great North House every Thursday, 12:00-13:00 (term time) to ask questions, share concerns or get practical advice on crime prevention and personal safety.
Safe Taxi scheme: If you are stranded without money during term time, call Budget Taxis on 0191 298 5050, quote reference NEW02, provide your name and student number for a taxi home (up to £8). The Students’ Union will contact you to check-in and organise payment.
Alcohol and drug safety: All students are required to complete the 2024 Induction on Canvas which includes training on Drugs and Alcohol Awareness. If you have not done so, we strongly recommend you complete it.
Scams and phishing emails: Read advice and explore resources from our Student Financial Support team on avoiding fraud. Check out the Cyber Security website from the IT Service (NUIT) for more information on tools, tips, and important resources to help you protect your personal data and reduce the risk of cyber-attacks.
