Matthew Grenby, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, has shared a message on the PGR Noticeboard with our postgraduate research community following the death of Professor Jason Arday, acknowledging the impact this news may have.

 

The message reaffirms Newcastle University's commitment to challenging all forms of discrimination and building a more inclusive and diverse postgraduate community and highlights the support available to PGRs who may have been affected by this news.

⛽️ Santander Fuel Your Studies prize draw

Santander is giving students the chance to win one of 150 £500 food and grocery vouchers.

 

The prize can be used at selected supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways and cafés, including Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Just Eat, Nando’s, Wagamama and Costa.

 

The prize draw is open to eligible UK students aged 18+. You don’t need to be a Santander customer. Apply by 23:59 on 12 November 2026.

🧘 Wellbeing sessions

From 23 to 25 September, a programme of free wellbeing sessions will take place in the Boiler House.

 

Topics include low motivation, mindfulness, neurodiversity, drug and alcohol awareness, eating distress, community pharmacy, domestic abuse awareness, gaming and gambling harms, and more.

 

Sessions last 30–60 minutes and offer practical advice, information and support.

 

Places are limited, so book in advance using your Newcastle University email address and password.

💼 Student job opportunity: Health Fair Assistant

17-25 September 2026 | Up to 20 hours

 

The Student Health and Wellbeing Service is looking for a number of Health Fair Assistants to help promote the Student Wellbeing Health Fair across campus.

 

The role involves:

  • Handing out information to students on campus

  • Promoting GP registration and wellbeing initiatives

  • Signposting students to health fair activities, support services, and informative wellbeing sessions 

Perfect for friendly, confident students with excellent communication, customer service, and time management skills.

 

Help students access valuable health and wellbeing support while gaining experience in a customer-facing role.

🩺 Student Health Hub: The Student Health Hub offers free drop-in access to health and wellbeing services for Newcastle and Northumbria students, with no referral required. This is an additional service alongside our usual wellbeing support and will run every Friday from 4 September, 9:30 to 12:30, on Level 2, King's Gate.
