The guardian ranked it fourth in the country for earth and marine science. The course programme looked very broad, insightful and catered for the future. Especially the sustainability modules. The faculty and small city lifestyle for university also greatly appealed to me. 

Has Newcastle University lived up to your expectations?

Yes, the people, the dedication of the staff and the range of student body make it unique and very exciting.

What has most impressed you about the University?

The variety of activities on offer. Whether it be the learning about Islam week or the opportunity to practice so many kinds of sports and meeting so many different types of people.

What is your favourite thing about your degree? Do you have any stand-out memories?

A day trip to Nenthead Mines. It was fun and educational at the same time. Especially after being online for the entire previous year, being able to go out and get hands on was great.

How supportive are academic staff on your degree programme?

I am chair of my department's student and staff committee and I see all the hard work the staff put in to make the course accessible, understandable, and meet all the needs of the student the best they can.

What has been your favourite life experience at Newcastle?

Having the opportunity to surf in the coldest weather I have ever experienced. Being only a metro away it was plenty of fun and an exciting story to tell people back home.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying your programme?

Keep an open mind. You will learn many things you need to know and many things you think you did not. A range of knowledge can be acquired.

What advice would you give to your younger self about university life?

That if you put yourself out there you will be able to experience so many amazing opportunities you won’t regret.
