Beth Logan 1What are your main responsibilities in your placement role?

Carrying out carbon audits, preparing financial budgets, visiting clients alongside a senior consultant, contacting farmers directly, writing reports, taking minutes at meetings.

How did you find out about this placement opportunity?

I contacted the company directly to see if there would be a chance that they would be interested in having a placement student.

Are you enjoying your placement? Can you tell us a bit about some of your highlights to date?

I am really enjoying placement. I attended the company conference which was a good chance to meet consultants from the English offices. I really like going out to visit clients and see some amazing bits of the country.

What is the most exciting thing you've done on placement so far?

I think definitely going out to meet clients and then following up with phone calls or emails after the meeting. It is nice to have that responsibility and for colleagues to trust me to contact their clients.

Please can you give us an overview of what a typical day on placement has been like for you?

My days differ significantly depending on what tasks I have to complete. Some days I am up really early to go and see clients, I have been to an Innovis Sheep Open Day on the stand for LGP and next week I am attending Agriscot with the company. I usually have some carbon audit work to complete and to work through updating budget data for clients. I work between 2 offices, so it is nice to have a little change of scenery too!

How has your degree helped you to be successful on placement?

My degree has definitely helped me so far and putting into practice what I have learnt in my first 2 years at uni has made it all make a bit more sense.

Do you feel that your placement with also equip you for life after University?

Yes, I feel much more confident already about life post university. Having to stay on top of work for clients is really good practice and also having to phone clients and other businesses has helped my confidence.

What advice would you give to students thinking about doing a placement year?

Definitely go for it.
