Andreas Iliopoulos ImageWhy did you choose to study at Newcastle University?

The reason I choose Newcastle University is from the Presentation of the Recruitment Team that it was presented by Prof. Lee Fawcett at The American Academy of Nicosia, Cyprus. He explained the life at Newcastle Upon Tyne and all the modules that a Math major will have to attend. Since BSc Mathematics requires you to attend coding, physics, statistics & math modules I was so fascinated that I can learn python and statistics simultaneously.

Has Newcastle University lived up to your expectations?

Yes, Newcastle University has lived up to my expectations since it offers so many opportunities and activities. There are so many societies that allows you to become automatically sociable and create memories of a lifetime.

What has most impressed you about the University?

The amount of work opportunities that are available and how generous the university is for its paying rate.

What is your favourite thing about your degree? Do you have any stand-out memories?

That it's a very broad course so I can pursue any postgraduate degree I need. But my favourite thing about my degree is the Cyprus Field Trip that I attended.

How supportive are academic staff on your degree programme?

The academic staff has been really helpful, and they have helped and explained on any concern or difficulty I faced. For example, they explained to me everything I needed to know about module choices.

What has been your favourite life experience at Newcastle?

The Cyprus Field Trip is one of my favourite memories. Me and another 9 colleagues travelled to Cyprus (my home country), and we represented the University and also, we made some seminars for the kids. In addition, I presented the same Recruitment Team Presentation that Prof. Lee Fawcett did 4 years ago to me!

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying your programme?

That everything will work out perfectly. Yes, there will be some moments that they will struggle or even consider quitting; but with consistent studying everyone can have an amazing time and balance their university lifestyle from their studies.

What advice would you give to your younger self about university life?

That it's going to be an amazing experience and he should take any opportunity the university offers him because then he will meet like-minded people that will suit his character.
